An Evening in Provence – Oscars

An Evening in Provence – Oscars

I’d wanted to visit French bistro Oscars for ages and took the chance when they held a Provence-themed night homage to patron Pascal’s home region of Provence. The little gem of a restaurant on Chandos Street holds regular auberge evenings and plenty of events, and the Evening in Provence proved to be a popular one, with both floors of the tardis-style restaurant packed with Francophiles and food fans.

Teaming up with fellow foodie Midlands Gourmet Girl for an evening of French classics, we had a chance to speak to Pascal and hear the personal tales behind some of the dishes. We started with Pissaladiere, a kind of tart/pizza that hails from the South of France, topped with caramelised onions, anchovies and black olives and served with saucisson and French bread.  Provençal fish soup brought back childhood memories for me and was followed by free range chicken with ratatouille and sauté potatoes. In true French style, we finished with a selection of cheese and, of course, there was plenty of wine flowing throughout. A perfect journey to the south of France – all without leaving Leamington.
